No. 41 Lewis Women's Tennis Cruises To 7-2 Win Over McKendree

Flyers extend winning streak to seven matches.

The No. 41 Lewis University women's tennis team extended their winning streak to seven matches with the 7-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over McKendree at Kings Point Sports Club on Friday (Apr. 12) afternoon.

With the win, Lewis improves to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play, while the host Bearcats are now 6-7 on the campaign and 2-4 in GLVC action.

Lewis got the ball rolling early, as the Flyers won all three doubles matches, starting with the No. 1 tandem of juniors Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) and Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium). Lanstiak and Kranczicki paired up for the 8-2 win over McKendree's Guiliana and Adriana Gonzalez.

Lanstiak added a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Adriana Gonzalez at No. 1 singles, while Kranczicki dropped Guiliana Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

The Flyers also received two victories apiece from freshmen Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa). Nguyen paired up with sophomore Brianna Markgraf (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) for the 8-7 win over Nathalia Olivera and Erika Smith-Thomas at No. 2 doubles.Nguyen added a 6-2, 6-0 win over Olivera at No. 3 singles.

Wetmore matched up with junior Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) (Elmhurst, Ill./York) for the 8-5 win over Kelcie Comley and Lauren Putbrese at No. 3 singles. Wetmore chipped in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Smith-Thomas at No. 4 singles.

Lewis returns to the court on Saturday (Apr. 13) morning, as the Flyers head to Louisville for a 10 AM (ET) first serve against Bellarmine.
