No. 9 Lewis Men's Volleyball Clashes With No. 12 Loyola In MIVA Championship On Saturday

The first serve is set for 7 PM on Saturday at Neil Carey Arena.

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 9 Lewis University men's volleyball team (20-9) will battle No. 12 Loyola (21-9) for their second-straight Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association title on Saturday (April 27) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is set for 7 PM.

  Livestats and livestream of Saturday's action can be found on www.Lewisflyers.com. Scott Slocum and Ray Gooden will be on the call for the match broadcasted live on Lakeshore Public Television, which can be seen in the area on channels 17 or 21 on Comcast and channel 56 on satellite. 

 Ticket prices for the championship match are $10 for adults and $7 for students/seniors. Lewis students are free with ID.

AVCA ALL-AMERICANS - Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) and redshirt junior setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Second Team, announced on Thursday (April 25).

MIVA ALL-CONFERENCE - The Flyers were one of two schools to have four athletes named to All-Conference teams. Powell and Boldog were named to All-MIVA First Team. Redshirt senior outside hitter Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and freshman middle blocker Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) earned second team accolades. 

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis defeated Grand Canyon 3-0 in a MIVA semifinal match on April 24, as Powell picked up 13 kills to lead the Flyers. Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) tallied his fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs as redshirt sophomore libero Eric Butch (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) also dug 12 balls.

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - Lewis and Loyola picked up 3-1 wins on each other's home courts to split the regular season match-ups. 

BIG BLOCKERS - Lewis is second in the country with a 2.93 blocks-per-set average heading into this week's action. Walsh is 11th nationally with a 1.21 blocks-per-set average.

SERIES RECORDS - The Ramblers hold a 22-17 lead over the Flyers.

IN THE NATIONAL RANKS - Lewis has been in the AVCA National Rankings for 47-straight weeks, dating back to Jan. 2011, when the 15th poll of the 2013 season came out on Monday (April 15). The last poll will come out on May 7.

HOME SWEET HOME - The Flyers have a 27-1 record when playing at Neil Carey Arena over the past two seasons, with their only loss coming this season to Loyola.

TO 1,000 KILLS & BEYOND - Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) captured his 1,000th kill against George Mason on Jan. 26. He heads into tonight's match with 1,196 total kills which puts him 8th all-time. Jeff Soler (2002-05) is 7th with 1,250 total kills. 

SETTIN' STORM -  Boldog is sitting in fourth with 3,312 total assists in Lewis program history. Current assistant coach and former Lewis setter Mike Iandolo is third with 3,389 total assists (2008-10).

UP NEXT - The winner earns the MIVA's automatic bid to play in the 2013 National Semifinal on May 2nd at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif.
