No. 9 Lewis Men's Volleyball Hosts No. 11 Ohio State On Black Out Thursday

Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 9 Lewis University men's volleyball team (18-7, 9-2 MIVA) will battle No. 11 Ohio State (17-5, 7-3 MIVA) in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action on Thursday (April 4) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is set for 7 PM.

The game will be broadcast live on Lakeshore Public Television with Scott Slocum and Ray Gooden will be on the call. Lakeshore Public Television can be viewed over the air and on satellite through DirecTV and Dish Network on Channel 56, on cable channel 17 in most Northwest Indiana communities, and on 18 and 21 in Chicago and its suburbs. The game will also be broadcast on WLRA (88.1 FM) with Shane Gustafson and T'Rell Campbell on the call.
   
MIVA LEADERS - Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) leads the conference with 335 total kills, averaging a league-best 3.72 kills-per-set.
 
NCAA STATISTICAL LEADERS - The Flyers are averaging a nation-best 3.01 blocks-per-set, when the NCAA Statistical Rankings were released on Monday (April 1).
 
BIG BLOCKERS - Lewis middle hitters freshman Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) (1.53) and junior Yiwei Zhou (Nanjing, China/Nanjing No. 1) (1.45) are first and second against MIVA opponents in blocks-per-set. Zhou is No. 7 nationally with a 1.26 blocks-per-set season average.
 
SERIES RECORDS - The Flyers have taken the last three of four matches, but the Buckeyes hold a 27-16 series lead.
 
IN THE NATIONAL RANKS - Lewis has been in the AVCA National Rankings for 46-straight weeks, dating back to Jan. 2011, when the 13th poll of the 2013 season came out on Monday (April 1).
 
LAST TIME OUT - Lewis put together a season-high .464 hitting percentage (42 kills, 10 errors, 69 attempts) in a three set sweep of Lees-McRae on March 28th. Sophomore opposite Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) hit a career-high .564 with 10 kills in two sets of action Zhou earned 1.5 blocks of the Flyers seven total team blocks.
 
SETTIN' STORM - Redshirt junior BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) is sitting in 4th with 3,203 total assists in Lewis program history. Current assistant coach and former Lewis setter Mike Iandolo is third with 3,389 total assists (2008-10).
 
LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - Lewis swept Ohio State on March 2nd in Columbus. Powell earned 15 kills and 11 digs while Zhou paced the Flyers with six total blocks and five kills. Boldog had 27 assist and five total blocks in the victory.
 
TO 1,000 KILLS & BEYOND - Redshirt senior outside hitter Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) captured his 1,000th kill against George Mason on Jan. 26. He heads into tonight's match with 1,157 total kills which puts him 8th all-time. Jeff Soler (2002-05) is 7th with 1,250 total kills.
 
UP NEXT - The Flyers close out the regular season on the road, heading to take on Ball State April 11th and IPFW on April 13th.
 
SENIOR DAY - The Flyers will honor seniors Brian Collins (Manchester, Mo./Parkway South) and Jay Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and student manager Marc Denson.
 
SERIES SWEEP - The Flyers will look to sweep the Buckeyes in the regular season for the first time since 1997.
