NCBWA Poll
Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team jumped into the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll at No. 17, when the poll was released on April 1.
The Flyers, who are 16-3 on the season, lead the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division with a 10-1 record and currently own a 10-game winning streak.
“Obviously, we are happy to be recognized and the guys have earned it by playing solid team baseball,” Lewis head baseball coach
Tim McDonough said. “Of course, we are not even half way done with the season and there is a lot of baseball to be played.
“Right now, we are just focused on this weekend's series at Bellarmine and getting better as a team every day.”
Sophomore shortstop
Mike Barajas (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth) was named GLVC Baseball Player of the Week on April 1 after he led the Flyers to their first four-game conference series sweep since 2001. Barajas went 6-for-13 for a .465 batting average while driving in six runs and scoring once against McKendree. He led the Flyers with six RBI, 10 total bases and a .769 slugging percentage.
The Flyers pitching staff has also put together the third-best earned run average in Division II (1.90) as well as the third-best hits allowed per nine innings (6.19) and WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitches) of 0.97.
The Flyers head on the road for a four-game weekend series at Bellarmine beginning on Saturday (April 6) at 12 PM.
