No. 11 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Sacred Heart, 3-0

Fairfield, Conn. – Lewis University junior outside hitter Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) hit a blistering .706 with 14 kills and two errors in 17 swings to help  the No. 11 men's volleyball team sweep Sacred Heart 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-16) on Saturday (Jan. 25) at the Pitt Center.
 
With their fifth-straight win, the Flyers improve to 6-2 on the season while the Pioneers fall to 1-4 on the campaign.

Petty also collected seven block assists, four digs, and two service aces for the Flyers. Redshirt junior Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) chipped in seven kills and four aces as redshirt freshman middle blocker Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) led the Flyers with a career-high nine total blocks (1 solo, 8 BA). Redshirt senior setter BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) had a floor-high 27 assists, five digs and one block assist.
 
The Flyers hit over .400 for the second-straight match, collecting 32 kills and seven errors on 62 attempts for a .403 hitting percentage. They were able to hold the Pioneers to a .111 hitting percentage with 26 kills and 18 errors on 72 swings.
 
Lewis also out-blocked Sacred Heart 14-2, and tallied a season-high nine service aces to the Pioneers three.

 "We took advantage of Sacred Heart's slower tempo with a great block defense tonight," Lewis head men's volleyball coach Dan Friend said. "It was nice to see another solid offensive night as we have one more match before opening the conference schedule."

Sacred Heart was led by Brad Borsay's 10 kills, four digs and two assists. Doug Dzema had 10 assists for the Pioneers.
 
The Flyers return to Neil Carey Arena to host Missouri Baptist on Thursday (Jan. 30) on Pizza Night. First serve is set for 7 PM.
