Junior
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) led all players with 20 kills and a .410 hitting percentage for the Flyers. Junior
Morgan Cebula (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area) hit .588 for 11 kills on 17 swings with one error. Freshman
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) hit .500 with 12 kills on 20 attempts with two errors.
Saint Joseph's out-hit the Flyers .275 to .255 in the opening set to go up 1-0. However after the first, Saint Joseph's hit .147, .147 and .167, in each set respectively. Lewis sided out at a 74 percent or better clip in each set.
The momentum of the second set changed with four consecutive kills by Cebula. In the third set, Lewis put together two or more consecutive points on eight occasions to take the frame.
Lewis used a 5-0 run midway through the fourth set to take an early advantage. However, the Pumas chipped away at the lead and it was just a one-point game when Davito put down a kill to make the score 22-20. Saint Joseph's asked for time to freeze Davito as she went back to serve. But it seemed to have the opposite effect on one of the GLVC's best servers as she came out of the break with an ace. Her ace serve made the score 23-20 and all but ended the Pumas' hopes.
Lewis finished the match out-hitting Saint Joseph's .293 to .188. Senior setter
Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) finished with 52 assists, nine digs and two kills. Senior libero
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) added 17 digs.
Saint Joseph's falls to 4-12 (2-8 GLVC). Lewis improves to 14-2 (9-1 GLVC). Lewis hosts Indianapolis on Saturday (Oct. 11) at Neil Carey Srena. Indianapolis is in second place behind the East Division leading Flyers.
