ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's volleyball dropped their first home match of the season on Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon thanks to a sweep by defending Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Indianapolis 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-12). The loss moves Indianapolis and Lewis into a tie atop the GLVC East Division.

The opening set featured 11 ties and five lead changes. Neither team scored more than three points in a row during the frame. It was a 23-22 Indianapolis advantage when a Lewis service error and a Indianapolis block gave the Greyhounds points 24 and 25 and the set.

Game two changed on a 7-0 run Indianapolis run midway through the frame. The Greyhounds opened the third set with a 9-2 lead and never looked back.

The Flyers were out-dug 82-62 with five Greyhounds earning double-digit digs. Indianapolis libero Kimberly Trojan had a team-high 20 digs but was out dug by Lewis libero Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills)'s 25 digs. Junior Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) led Lewis with 10 kills. The Greyhounds out-hit the Flyers .234 to. 088.

"Point blank, we just got beat," Lewis women's volleyball head coach Lorelee Smith said. "Indy had more power, they played more aggressive and they hustled more on defense."

Lewis was held without an ace for just the second time this season.

Indianapolis improves to 10-6 (9-2 GLVC). Lewis falls to 14-3 (9-2 GLVC). The Flyers, and the entire GLVC, travel to nearby Aurora, Ill. on Friday and Saturday for the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover. The matchups will be announced on Monday.
