Romeoville, Ill. -
The Lewis University men's soccer team used a pair of header goals from juniors Robert Zieba (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) and Krystian Nowak (Bridgeview, Ill./Argo) to pick up the 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Truman State at Lewis Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 19) afternoon.

"We came out, concentrated and executed the things we needed to do (today)," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "We took some things we did well (against Quincy) on Friday and carried it over."

With the victory, Lewis improves to 8-4-2 overall and 7-3-2 in GLVC action, while the visiting Bulldogs drop to 5-8-1 on the campaign and 4-7-1 in conference play.

Zieba got the Flyers on the board in the first half, as he converted a perfect crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Nicholas Monteiro (Brasillia, Brazil/School of the Nations) with a header shot past Truman goalkeeper Drew Garrone at the 35:12 mark. Michael Pyle (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) also assisted on the play.

Nowak added the insurance goal in the 52nd minute, as he headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder Lenin Roa-Tapia (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) to give Lewis the 2-0 lead.

Truman State held a 16-15 shot advantage, but the Flyers had eight shots on goal to the Bulldogs' seven. Garrone made six saves in goal for Truman State, while Flyer goalkeeper Omar Ramirez (Houston, Texas/Elsik) made seven saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

Lewis returns to action on Friday (Oct. 24), as the Flyers welcome Saint Joseph's to Lewis Stadium for 'Senior Night'. First kick is slated for 5 PM.
