Indianapolis, Ind. - With the contest tied at zero and less than 30 seconds remaining in double overtime, Lewis University junior forward
Robert Zieba (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) figured why not?
Zieba unleashed a rocket from 30-yards out, past Indianapolis goalkeeper Andrew Verhonik for the game-winner with 23 seconds remaining, as the Lewis men's soccer team claimed the 1-0 (2 OT) Great Lakes Valley Conference win over the host Greyhounds at Key Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 26) afternoon.
Lewis senior defender
Michael Pyle (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) assisted on the golden goal by Zieba.
The win is also Lewis head men's soccer coach
Evan Fiffles' 300th victory as the Flyers' head coach and clinches fourth-place overall in the GLVC, which guarantees a home playoff game on Sunday, November 2nd. Time and opponent to be determined.
"It was a playoff-type game atmosphere," Fiffles said. "Either team could have won it.
"We can play better, but I'm proud of the effort (today)."
As a team, Indianapolis outshot Lewis, 21-7, with both team registering five shots on goal. Lewis goalkeeper
Omar Ramirez (Houston, Texas/Elsik) made five saves to earn his seventh shutout of the season, while Verhonik made four stops.
