ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's soccer and second place Bellarmine played to a 0-0 (2 OT) tie at Lewis Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game.

"Especially compared to Friday night, this was as complete a game as I've seen us play in terms of what our identity is," Lewis head coach Chris Koenig said.

Bellarmine had their best chance in the second minute of the first overtime. Lauren Holder hit the right post on a shot which would have won the game. Abby Janszen jumped on the rebound and tried to hammer it home only to see Lewis senior goaltender Mara Bennett (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) make the save.

Lewis' best chances came in the final minute of the second overtime. Junior Daniella DiGioia (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) broke open in the center of the field and released a shot a few yards out from the top of the box. Her shot went high toward the center of the goal and would have gone in had Bellarmine goaltender Hannah Poteet not made a jumping one handed save. It set up three corner kick opportunities for Lewis in the final minute but the Flyers were not able to get the game winning goal.

Bellarmine out-shot Lewis 11-9. Bennett made six saves for Lewis. The opening half featured just one shot for each team. Lewis held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

"I was proud of our team today," Koenig said. "Hopefully we can build off this going into next week."

The tie is Bellarmine's first of the season. They are now 7-2-1 (5-1-1 GLVC) on the season. Lewis is now 1-5-4 (1-4-3 GLVC). Lewis hits the road on Friday (Oct. 10) for a GLVC contest at Missouri-St. Louis.
