Lewis Men's Basketball Squares Off With Olivet Nazarene On Wednesday

Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM at Neil Carey Arena.

After two weeks away from home, the Lewis University men's basketball team returns to Neil Carey Arena on Wednesday (Dec. 3) night, as the Flyers (4-1) take on Olivet Nazarene (6-3) for a 7:30 PM tip-off.

ALL-TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 12-3 advantage over the Tigers in their all-time series.

LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis junior guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) led all scorers with 24 points, including a 12-for-13 outing from the free throw line, as the Flyers earned the 79-64 win over Olivet Nazarene on November 11, 2013.

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis had four players score in double-figures, led by a career-high 16 points and four three-pointers from senior forward David Niggins (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), in the 76-59 win over Wayne State on Saturday (Nov. 29).

TRIPLE THREAT - Jackson has led the Flyers in points, rebounds and assists in a single game, five times during his career.

THE LAST TIME - Lewis freshman guard Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) posted 20 points and 10 rebounds in the 91-62 win over Malone (Nov. 15). He is the first Flyer freshman to score at least 20 points in a game since Jackson did it as a rookie in 2011-12 He is also the first rookie to notch a double-double since his brother Marty Strus (2008-12) accomplished that feat in 2008.

GETTING TO THE LINE - Lewis is 9-0 over the past three seasons when Jackson gets to the free throw line at least 10 times.

SMOKIN' HOT - Lewis has won 33 of its last 42 contests dating back to the 2012-13 campaign for a winning percentage of .786. During that stretch, the Flyers have defeated five teams that were ranked in the NABC/Division II Men's Basketball Poll. The Flyers have won 44 games since the start of the 2012-13 campaign.

PRESEASON PICK - Jackson has received several preseason accolades including Preseason All-American (Basketball Times) and Preseason Honorable Mention All-American (Sporting News; Division II Bulletin).

RANKED SCHMANKED - Lewis has defeated at least one nationally-ranked Division II team in each of the last four seasons.

TOP 10 - Jackson needs 61 points to crack the All-Time Top 10 in Lewis career scoring.

SIXTH MEN - Niggins and senior guard Gabe Williams (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) are both averaging 9.8 points-per-game off the bench, shooting a combined 58.7% (37-for-63) from the field and 53.6% (15-for-28) from three-point range.

300/150 CLUB - Lewis head coach Scott Trost needs two wins to reach 300 for his career and four victories to reach 150 as the Flyers' skipper.

1,000 ON THE HORIZON - Lewis needs 171 points to reach 1,000 for his career.

1,000/700 CLUB - Lewis needs 171 points and 133 rebounds to become the fourth Flyer in school history to notch at least 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in the Division II era.

WINNING WITH CLASS - Lewis' current senior class (2011) needs 16 wins to reach the most victories (75) by a Trost recruiting class, set by last year's seniors.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis shot a scorching 68.8% (11-for-16) from three-point range in their win over Saginaw Valley on November 20th. That was their best three-point performance since they drained 69.2% (9-for-13) of their attempts in a 69-67 win over Indianapolis on February 26, 2011.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN (PART DEUX) - Lewis has hit at least 10 three-pointers in three games this season. The Flyers needed the entire 2013-14 campaign to achieve that same feat.
 
FROM WAY DOWNTOWN (PART TROIS) - Lewis is shooting better from three-point range (44.9%) than their opponents are shooting overall (40.0%).

DEEP BENCH - Lewis has nine players who are averaging at least 11.0 minutes-per-game this season.

BENCH MOB - Lewis' bench is averaging 29 points and shooting 57.4% (54-for-94) from the field and 52.3% (23-for-44) from three-point range.

LESS IS MORE - The Flyers needed just 47 total field goal attempts to defeat Saginaw Valley State on November 20th. Lewis is 10-3 (.769) since 2012 when taking less than 50 shots in a contest.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM - Trost announced that he has signed 6-foot-2 combo guard Jake Reinhart to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Flyers beginning in 2015. Reinhart's sister Jess is currently a four-year starter for Lewis' nationally ranked women's basketball team.

NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS - Lewis is 28-7 (.800) in non-conference games dating back to the 2011-12 campaign.

TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK - Lewis senior point guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) leads the GLVC and is sixth in the country (as of Nov. 30) with a 5.67 to 1 assist/turnover ratio.

HE'S ON FIRE - Niggins is shooting 49.0% (25-for-51) from three-point range in his last 12 contests.

HOME SWEET HOME - Lewis has won 26 of their last 30 games at Neil Carey Arena for an .867 winning percentage.
