Fort Wayne, Ind. – Lewis University sophomore middle hitter
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) posted a career-high 13 kills and one error on 19 attempts to hit .632 in the No. 10 men's volleyball team's 3-2 (25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 15-12) loss to IPFW on Thursday (Feb. 20) at the Gates Sports Center.
The Flyers fall to 9-4 on the year and 1-2 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play while the Mastodons improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-1 in league play.

Dan Friend said. "We dug ourselves a ditch we couldn't get out in the first and second set."
"We came back to play well in the third and the fourth set," Friend continued. "We made costly errors and couldn't finish in the fifth to get the win."

Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) tallied a season-high 24 putaways, seven digs and three total blocks as fellow outside hitter
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) collected 14 kills, nine digs and two block assists. Redshirt senior setter
BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) dished out 53 assists while picking up four kills, four digs and four total blocks while junior libero
Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) had seven digs.
In the first set the Powell paced the Flyers with five kills, but IPFW took a 17-16 lead on an Eddie Rivera kill that helped the Mastodons close out the set on an 8-6 run.
The Flyers out-blocked the Mastodons in the second set, 4.5-1.0, including back-to-back solo blocks by Powell and Boldog to get within 16-12, but Lewis fell short in the set, 25-23.
Lewis regrouped after the intermission, holding IPFW to a .233 (13 K, 6 E, 30 TA) while hitting .308 (13 K, 5 E, 26 TA). Powell led the Flyers with five kills in the frame, while opposites
Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and
Patrick Lilly (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) both tallied service aces.
The Flyers carried their momentum into the fourth set and forced a fifth, swinging .391 with 11 kills and two errors on 23 attempts as they held the Mastodons to .194 (12 K, 6 E, 18 TA). Lewis also tallied two more blocks while Powell and Walsh tallied four putaways each in the set victory.

James Hofmann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas), but the Flyers only picked up two kills while IPFW took advantage of late Lewis miscues for the victory.
IPFW had three players post double-figure kills, led by Eddie Rivera's 18 putaways and 14 digs. Andrew Sellan chipped in 16 kills while Bryan Saunders tallied 13. Omar Rivera had a floor-high 57 assists whle Luis Bertran collected 11 digs.
The Flyers return home to host No. 13 Ball State on Saturday (Feb. 22) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is set for 7 PM on White Out Night.
