Quincy, Ill. – The No. 12 Lewis University men's volleyball team put together .451 hitting percentage ( 47 K, 10 E, 82 TA) to pick up their second-straight Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association sweep on Friday (Feb. 28) defeating Quincy 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18) at Pepsi Arena.
The Flyers improve to 11-4 on the season and 3-2 in MIVA action while the Hawks fall to 7-9 on the year and 0-6 in league play.
Redshirt junior outside hitter
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) led the Flyer offense swinging .783, collecting 19 kills and one error on 23 attempts. He also tallied six digs and three service aces. Junior outside hitter
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) picked up 13 kills, six digs, and four block assists while sophomore middle blocker
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) hit .692 with nine kills and no errors in 13 attempts, and three block assists.

BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) dished out a floor high 39 assists, while collecting three putaways and three digs. Junior libero
Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) matched a season-high 12 digs.

Dan Friend said. "Lucas had a great night on defense and in serve receive, which helped BJ find hot hitters in Geoff, Greg and Bobby."
The Flyers jumped out early and stayed in control of the match. Lewis hit .520 (15 K, 2 E, 25 TA) in the first set, while holding Quincy to .138 (10 K, 6 E, 29 TA). The Flyers picked up five of their seven blocks in the game.
The Flyers stayed ahead of the Hawks in the second set, using a four-point run early to take a 10-5 lead. Walsh collected two kills and teamed up with Petty for a block assist, as he tallied a putaway to help the Flyers set up an advantage the Hawks couldn't overcome.
Petty and Powell both tallied six kills in the third set. Walsh chipped in two putaways while redshirt sophomore middle blocker
Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) rounded out the Flyers 15 kills in the set for a .333 hitting percentage (15 K, 4 E, 33 TA).
The Hawks offense was led by Andrew Cavanaugh's 10 putaways, while Ian Lawson chipped in eight kills and four digs. Quincy setter Brian Rogan dished out 29 assists.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (March 1) to face Lindenwood at Hyland Arena in St. Louis, Mo. Due to inclement weather headed for the area, the match will now start at 5 PM.
