Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 10 Lewis University men's volleyball team had control of the match from the beginning as the Flyers hit .515 (41 K, 7 E, 66 TA) to pick up the 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-14) sweep of McKendree University on Friday (Feb. 7) at Neil Carey Arena.
The Flyers improve to 8-3 on the year while the Bearcats fall to 1-9 on the season.
Junior opposite
Tom Logan (Kenmore, Wash./Bishop Blanchet), who hit .467 as he collected a career-high nine kills and two errors on 15 attempts, led the Lewis offense. Redshirt freshman outside hitter
Kyle Rohde (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) picked up four kills and one error in nine attempts to swing at a .333 clip.
Lewis junior outside hitter
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) tallied a season-high four service aces while sophomore setter
Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) dished out 24 assists and collected three digs and two kills. Redshirt junior outside hitter
Eric Butch (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) collected a career-high seven kills with no errors on nine attempts to hit .778 while junior libero
Andy Orf (St. Charles, Mo./Christian Brothers) tallied six digs for the Flyers.
"The guys did a nice job of rebounding from our tough loss to Loyola earlier in the week," Lewis head men's volleyball coach
Dan Friend said. "They took care of business tonight as we got to play some different guys, who took over right were the others left off.
"It was great to see all the guys contribute and make a nice impact in the win."
The Flyers flexed their experience as they held the Bearcats to a .031 hitting percentage (18 K, 16 E, 65 TA) for the night and out-blocked the visitors 5.5 to 2.0.
Lewis opened the match swinging at a .500 clip (11 K, 2 E, 18 TA). The Flyers then hit .440 (15 K, 4 E, 25 TA) in the second set to close out the third set on fire hitting .609, collecting 15 kills and one error on 23 attempts.
Eric Abrolat and Michael Polizzi, who both chipped in four kills, paced the Bearcat offense. Jack MacLean dished out 16 assists as Brice Miller tallied five digs.
The Flyers head on the road to take on Ohio State in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play on Saturday (Feb. 15) at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio. First serve is set for 7 PM ET.
