Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 11 Lewis University men's volleyball team collected their fourth-straight straight-set victory on Tuesday (March 11) when the Flyers defeated No. 15 Ohio State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-20), at Neil Carey Arena in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action.
The Flyers improve to 12-4 on the season and 5-2 in MIVA play while the Buckeyes fall to 8-9 on the year and 4-5 in league play.
"Mentally and physically, the team is in a good spot after having 10 days off since our last match," Lewis head men's volleyball coach
Dan Friend said. "It took a few points for the team to get in a groove again, but they really didn't miss a beat from where they left off against Lindenwood."
The Flyer offense was led by redshirt junior outside hitter
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) with 14 kills while junior outside hitter
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) tallied 12 putaways, four digs, two aces and two block assists. Junior opposite
Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) collected nine kills, three service aces and three total blocks (1 solo, 2 BA).

BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) tallied 19 assists while sophomore setter
Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) chipped in 17 helpers. Junior libero
Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) tallied nine digs for the Flyers.
The Flyers were able assert their game plan first, as they were able to limit attack and service errors. Lewis hit .436 (45 K, 11 E, 78 TA) and collected 6.5 total blocks (2 solo, 9 BA) for the match while they kept Ohio State at a .308 (37 K, 13 E, 78 TA) clip with 5.0 total blocks (1 solo, 8 BA).
Lewis shook off a 12-all tie in the first set with a 3-0 run and used the advantage late to capture the set victory. Sophomore middle blocker
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) picked up a kill and a block assist with Petty during the run for the Flyers, as well as a Buckeye miscue.
In the second set, Lewis took the lead and never let it go. A kill by Fitterer at 24-18 set the Flyers up for match point, but the Buckeyes picked up three points before Lewis could capture the set at 25-21.
Lewis carried their momentum into the third set, heating up to hit .500 (17 K, 4 E, 26 TA) as the Flyers stopped any of the Buckeyes attempts at getting back into the match.
The Buckeye offense was led by Miles Johnson's 10 kills and four digs while setter Christy Blough dished out a floor-high 33 assists.
The Flyers jump out of conference action to host George Mason on Friday (March 14) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve on Leprechaun Night is set for 7 PM. Fans are encouraged to wear their St. Patrick's Day green for the match.
