Romeoville, Ill. – The No. 10 Lewis University men's volleyball team jumps out of conference action to host Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association squads in Saint Francis on Friday (March 21) and No. 14 Penn State on Saturday (March 21) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve is set for 7 PM on both days.
THEME NIGHTS – Friday's (March 21) theme is Sunglasses Night and the first 100 fans will receive a free pair of sunglasses. The first 40 students (with ID) to Saturday's (March 22) Red Out Night will get a free red Lewis Men's Volleyball t-shirt.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT - The Flyers fell to No. 1 Loyola on Tuesday (March 18) 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19) at Gentile Arena.
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) led the Flyers with 17 putaways while
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) chipped in 10 kills.
AMONG THE COUNTRY - The Flyers are fifth in the country with 2.88 blocks-per-set and third in the country with a .336 (804 K, 263 E, 1611 TA) hitting percentage.
TOP BLOCKER - Sophomore middle blocker
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) is fifth in the country averaging 1.39 blocks-per-set (79 Total blocks, 9 Solo, 70 BA) after collecting a career-high 10 block assists in the Flyers sweep of George Mason last week.
ALL-TIME SERIES RECORD VS PENN STATE – The Nittany Lions hold an 18-6 all-time series record over the Flyers after picking up a 3-1 victory over Lewis on Jan. 18, 2013, in University Park, Pa.
UPPER HAND - Lewis has dominated the all-time series against Saint Francis at 12-1, including sweeping both match-ups last season.
COIN-A-PALOOZA KICK OFF – The Lewis University and COHNP sophomore professional development class will be collecting money for COIN-A-PALOOZA Birthday Bash for the Lewis University Family Assistance Fund for Advocate Children's Hospital. To kick off the event, 11-year-old Tommy Kohl from Advocate Children's Hospital will serve as an honorary captain at the Flyers match against Penn State.
UP NEXT – The Flyers host IPFW at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (March 27) for a 7 PM first serve on Sign Night. Students can come to the SRFC Board Room from 8-10 PM on Wednesday (March 26) to make posters along with the men's volleyball team for the match. Supplies and pizza will provided.
