Romeoville, Ill. - The seven-match losing streak came to an end for the Lewis University men's tennis team, as the Flyers earned the 5-4 win over Saint Joseph's in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Saturday (March 22) afternoon.
With the win, Lewis improves to 3-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the visiting Pumas are now 12-3 on the campaign and 0-1 in GLVC action.
Lewis' junior tandem of
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) opened the match with an 8-6 victory over Saint Joseph's Adam Meeker and Joseph Scott at No. 1 doubles. Levandi whitewashed Joseph Bomben, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Aunapuu blanked Seth Arthur, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis senior
Philip Kuenzi (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) and freshman
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) earned the 8-4 triumph over Arthur and Reid Imel. Srdanovic would later claim the 6-0, 6-2 win over Danny James at No. 3 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (March 28), as the Flyers host McKendree for a 2 PM first serve.
