No. 11 Lewis Men's Volleyball Hosts No. 14 IPFW On Thursday

First serve is set for 7 PM at Neil Carey Arena



Romeoville, Ill. - The No. 11 Lewis University men's volleyball team gets set to host No. 14 IPFW in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match-up on Thursday (March 27) at Neil Carey Arena. First serve on Sign Night is set for 7 PM.

LAST TIME OUT - The Flyers fell 3-1 (25-21, 19-25, 24-26, 20-25) to No. 14 Penn State on March 22 at Neil Carey Arena. Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) paced the Flyers with 17 kills without an error on 30 attempts to hit .567, while collecting six digs and four block assists

AGAINST THE MIVA - The Flyers are second with a .336 (945 K, 308 E, 1898 TA) hitting percentage, which is the fourth-best during the rally-scoring era at Lewis. The Flyers are also second in the conference with a 3.07 blocks-per-set average.

LAST TIME WE FACED OFF - The Flyers fell in five to IPFW in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Feb. 20th. Powell tallied a match-high 24 kills, while Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) collected 14 putaways as Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) picked up 13 kills and three block assists.

AMONG THE NATION - The Flyers headed into the week with the third-best hitting percentage in the country, swinging .336 (945 K, 308 E, 1898 TA) as squad. The Flyers moved up a spot to eighth in the country with a 2.75 blocks-per-set average.

IN THE NATIONAL RANKS - On March 24rd, the Flyers were ranked at No. 11 in the 12th installment of the 2014 AVCA Division I-II Men's Coaches Top-15 Poll. Lewis has been in the AVCA National Rankings for 61-straight weeks, dating back to Jan. 2011.

BLOCKING THE MIVA –  Walsh is second in the MIVA with 86 total blocks (12 solo, 76 BA) and 6th nationally with a 1.25 block-per-set average. 

MOVING UP THE RECORD BOOKS - Powell heads into this week's action with 849 total career kills which puts him seventh all-time during the rally-scoring era at Lewis. He is also sixth with a 3.23 career kills-per-set average. 

UP NEXT FOR THE FLYERS - Lewis wraps up MIVA road action on Saturday (March 29) when they take on Ball State in Muncie, Ind. The Flyers swept the Feb. 22nd match up at Neil Carey Arena. 

HOME SWEET HOME - Lewis wraps up the 2014 season at Neil Carey Arena hosting Quincy (April 4) and Lindenwood (April 5) before they welcome Grand Canyon for matches on April 11-12th.
