Plainfield, Ill. - The Lewis University men's tennis team may have won more matches than McKendree, but the Bearcats were the benefactors of a pair of forfeit victories, as they earned the 5-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference triumph over the Flyers at the Five Star Tennis Center on Friday (March 28) afternoon.
Lewis forfeited both No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
"The men battled well, but they need to learn to seize the opportunities when they get them," Lewis head men's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said.
With the win, McKendree improves to 13-3 overall and 1-1 in GLVC action, while the host Flyers are now 3-8 on the campaign and 1-1 in conference play.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' junior duo of
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) claimed the 8-5 triumph over Luciano Misitrano and Justin Leskera. Levandi beat Misitrano, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Aunapuu was victorious over Maximilian Ilic at No. 3 singles.
The Flyers other victory came at No. 2 singles, as freshman
