Plainfield, Ill. - The No. 47 Lewis University women's tennis team extended its Great Lakes Valley Conference winning streak to 15 matches, as the host Flyers breezed to the 8-1 win over McKendree at the Five Star Tennis Center on Friday (March 28) afternoon.
"The ladies did a great job right from the start in doubles and continued with good, smart singles play," Lewis head women's tennis coach
Brett Bridel said.
With the win, Lewis improves to 8-3 on the campaign and 2-0 in GLVC action, while the visiting Bearcats are now 12-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' nationally-ranked tandem of
Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and
Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) collected the 8-2 win over Adriana Gonzalez and Giuliana Gonzalez. Kranczicki added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Adriana Gonzalez at No. 1 singles, while Lanstiak picked up the 6-1, 6-0 victory against Giuliana Gonzalez at No. 2 singles.
Lewis' No. 2 doubles team of freshman
Ana Banic (Skradin, Croatia/Gimnazija Antuna Vrancica) and sophomore
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) earned the 8-4 win over Kelcie Comley and Samantha Siegel. Banic dropped Siegel, 6-1, 7-6 at No. 3 singles, while Nguyen bested Comley, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
The Flyers swept doubles play at No. 3, as senior
Kendra Mills (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and sophomore
Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) teamed up to beat McK's Sara Janulavich and Anna Mernick, 8-2. Wetmore added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mernick at No. 5 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (March 29) as they welcome Southern Indiana to the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 12 PM.
