Game 2 Box Score (pdf)Somers, Wis. – The Lewis Baseball team was unable to bounce back from an 11-3 game one loss to UW-Parkside on Wednesday (April 23) before falling in the last inning of game two 3-2 to the Rangers at Oberbruner Field.
The Flyers fall to 20-21 on the season and 12-15 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, while the Rangers improve to 12-24 on the year and 10-18 in league action.
"I have to give Parkside credit for coming out and competing and playing better than us," Lewis head baseball coach
Tim McDonough said. "They really took it to us in the first game and we didn't respond."
The Rangers jumped on the Flyers, taking a 3-0 lead through four innings. Lewis was able to cut into their lead in the fifth when the Flyers collected two runs on three hits, including a double by sophomore
Joe Sparacio (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central).
The Rangers posted four runs in the sixth and seventh to put the game out of reach for the Flyers.
Lewis starter
Nick Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Davito (0-2) walked five and struck out two.
UW-Parkside starter Mario Samuel collected the win, allowing three runs on six hits in seven innings. Samuel (4-4) struck out three and walked two.
In the night cap, the Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on one hit and two Flyer miscues.
The Flyers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the sixth when senior
Ben Albano (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) blasted his sixth home run of the season to left field, scoring senior
Jake Murray (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) from second.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Rangers collected four straight singles to score two runs and win the game 3-2.
Lewis starter
Kendall Paluch (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned, on eight hits over 6.2 innings of work. Paluch (2-6) struck out six and walked one.
UW-Parkside Josh Serio was credited with the win giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings on the mound. Serio (2-6) struck out seven and walked two.
The Flyers next take on McKendree in Lebanon, Ill., opening a four-game GLVC series on Saturday (April 26) at 12 PM.
