USI Game Notes (PDF)

Romeoville, Ill. -
The Lewis University men's basketball team seeks to regain its winning ways as the Flyers (12-5, 4-4 GLVC) travel to Evansville for a 3 PM tip-off with Southern Indiana (11-5, 4-4 GLVC) at the Physical Activities Center on Saturday (Jan. 24) afternoon.
Live stats, audio and video streaming of Saturday's contest - provided by Southern Indiana - can be found at www.LewisFlyers.com.

ALL-TIME SERIES -  Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Screaming Eagles hold a 43-23 advantage over the Flyers in their all-time series.

LAST TIME WE MET - No. 20 Southern Indiana led from start to finish and hit 11 three-pointers as the Screaming Eagles earned the 92-74 victory over No. 23 Lewis at the 2014 GLVC Quarterfinals at the Ford Center on March 7, 2014.

LAST TIME OUT - No. 7 Bellarmine erased a seven-point, second-half deficit to force overtime and held Lewis to without a field goal in the extra session, as the host Knights picked up the hard-fought 82-79 (OT) GLVC win over the visiting Flyers at Knights Hall on Thursday (Jan. 22) night.

THE LAST TIME - Lewis guard Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) has recorded two double-doubles in his freshman campaign for the Flyers. He is the first Flyer rookie to record a double-double since his brother Marty Strus (2008-12) accomplished that feat in 2008.

WELL DONE ROOKIE - Strus has scored at least 20 points in a game four times this season. He is the first Flyer freshman to score 20 points in a game since senior guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) did it in 2011-12.

SMOKIN' HOT - Lewis has won 41 of its last 54 contests dating back to the 2012-13 campaign for a winning percentage of .759.

TOP 10 - Jackson (1,557 points) is in seventh place in school-history in career points. He needs 13 points to pass Ferry Williams (1964-68) for sixth place.

1,000/700 ON THE HORIZON - Senior forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) needs 91 points to reach 1,000 for his career and 43 more rebounds to become just the fourth Flyer in school history to notch at least 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in the Division II era.

WINNING WITH CLASS - Lewis' current senior class (2011) needs seven wins to reach the most victories (75) by a Scott Trost recruiting class, set by last year's seniors.

TOTALLY TO THE MAX - Strus is the highest scoring freshman in the GLVC, as the Hickory Hills, Ill., native is 21st in the conference, averaging 13.2 points-per-game.

TOTALLY TO THE MAX (PART DEUX) - Strus is averaging a team-best 19.3 points, shooting 59.6% (28-for-47) from the field and 44.0% (11-for-25) from three-point range in the Flyers' last four games.

TAKING THE LEAD - In Lewis' 12 wins this season, they have trailed just 9:40 out of a possible 480 minutes played.

FREEBIES - Senior guard Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) has made his last 29 free throws dating back to the Flyers' game against St. Francis (Ill.) (Dec. 20). He is shooting a team-best 88.5% (54-for-61) from the charity stripe.

POINTS IN THE PAINT - The Flyers have a decisive advantage down low, as Lewis is averaging 35.9 points-per-game in the paint to their opponents' 21.3.

POUNDING THE GLASS - Lewis currently holds a +7.1 rebounding margin over their opponents through 17 games this season. That would be the highest rebounding margin of any Flyer team under Trost's tenure. The previous high under Trost was +4.2 in 2007-08.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis has hit at least 10 three-pointers in four games this season. That's the most times the Flyers have hit at least 10 trifectas since they did it five times during the 2011-12 campaign.

LESS IS MORE - The Flyers needed just 47 total field goal attempts to defeat Saginaw Valley State on November 20th. Lewis is 10-4 (.714) since 2012 when taking less than 50 shots in a contest.

POURING IN POINTS - Lewis has scored 90+ points three times this season in 17 contests. That's the most times the Flyers have reached the 90-point plateau since they did it three times during the 2011-12 campaign.

SIZEABLE VICTORIES - Lewis has had nine victories of 20+ points or more this season, which is the most by a Flyer team during the Division II era (1980-present).

MID-RANGE JUMPER? - Lewis has scored just 98 points this season that have not been either a three-point FG, a FG in the paint or a free throw. Those points amount to just 7.3 percent of the Flyers' scoring this season.

THIEVES IN THE NIGHT - Lewis' 15 steals against Bellarmine on Thursday was the most by a Flyer squad since they recorded 15 swipes in a 101-37 victory over Robert Morris (Springfield) on December 29th, 2008.

CENTURY CLUB - Saturday's contest against Southern Indiana will mark Jackson's 100th appearance and start in a Flyer uniform.

HARD FOUGHT GAMES - Southern Indiana has won four out of its last six games against Lewis, but it has not been easy. USI has won two games by two or fewer points and needed overtime to beat the Flyers in another.

JACKSON VS. USI - In six career games against Southern Indiana, Jackson is averaging 18.7 points-per-contest against the Screaming Eagles.

JOCKEYING FOR POSITION - The winner of Saturday's contest will be in sole possession of fourth place in the GLVC East Division behind nationally ranked Indianapolis (#1), UW-Parkside (#19) and Bellarmine (#7).
