Results (HTML)ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –  No. 19 Lewis men's swimming pulled out a win against the University of Chicago 104-100 on Friday (Jan. 23) evening at the Lewis Pool.
It was senior night for the Flyers as Lewis honored
Tyson Polack (Canby, Ore./Canby),
Peter Holanda (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) and
Brett Busch (East Moline, Ill./United Township). Lewis won seven total events against the Maroons.
Junior
Victor Tarin (Godelleta, Valencia, Spain/IES Conselleria) broke his own pool record with a victorious time of 1:40.25 in the 200 freestyle. Sophomore
Aidan Brennan (Naples, Fla. /Barron Collier) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:39.07.
Junior
Matt Bacinich (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) won the 50 freestyle (21.87), while junior
Tommy Cornes (Napa, Cali./Vintage) was just behind Bacinich (21.95) to take second. Bacinich also won the 100 freestyle (47.32).
Sophomore
Bryan Wiener (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) touched the wall over three seconds before the second place finisher to win the 100 backstroke (49.41). Sophomore
Bryant Jacobs (Pacifica, Calif./Terra Nova) captured a victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:48.11. Junior
Zach Ballon (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) out-touched the second place finisher by .05 seconds in the 100 breaststroke (59.62) to get the win.
"We swam extremely well tonight against very good University of Chicago teams," Lewis head coach
Roger Karns said. "The men and women combined to set three pool records and Chicago set a couple as well which gives you an idea of the quality of meet we had. I was very happy with the swims, particularly for the point of the season we are in."
The Flyers finish the 2014-15 home season undefeated at 5-0-1.
Lewis returns to the pool tomorrow (Jan. 24) when they go to Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds and Washington University in a double dual. The first event is set for 2 p.m. ET in the Saturday afternoon meet. It is Lewis' final event before the Great Lake Valley Conference Championships.
