Romeoville, Ill. -
Missouri-St. Louis shot 54.2% (26-for-48) from the field, 60.0% (9-for-15) from three-point range and 81.3% (26-for-32) from the free throw line on their way to the 87-83 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over No. 21 Lewis University at Neil Carey on Thursday (Jan. 8) night.

UMSL senior forward Tylor Wimbish led all scorers with 19 points, followed by 16 points - including four three-pointers - from junior guard Brandon Marquardt. Triton guard Derek Shouse came off the bench and hit 11-of-12 free throw attempts to finish with 14 points, while senior guard Aareon Smith posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

"Defensively that may be as bad an effort that we've had since I've been here," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I don't ever remember us giving up 87 points in a regulation game.

"We just didn't play hard enough, well enough or deserve to beat (UMSL)."

With the victory, UMSL improves to 11-2 and 3-0 overall in the GLVC, while the Flyer fall to 10-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference action. The loss snaps Lewis' seven-game winning streak and its six-game winning streak at Neil Carey Arena.

Lewis senior guards Jeff Jarosz (Lyons, Ill./Morton) and Gabe Williams (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) each scored 18 points to pace the Flyers offensively. Williams' 18 points were a career-high for the Chicago native, breaking his previous best of 16 set earlier this season against Saginaw Valley State.

Senior guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) collected 14 points, followed by 13 points and eight rebounds from freshman guard Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg). Junior forward Brad Foster (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) - in his first career start - had 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting, including six rebounds and two blocked shots.

It was a tightly knit game, as UMSL held a 54-52 lead over the Flyers with 8:19 left in the contest following a pair of Williams free throws. UMSL, however, answered with a 9-0 run over the next 2:23, led by four points from Smith and Lewis would come no closer.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 10), as the Flyers welcome Maryville to Neil Carey Arena for a 3 PM tip-off.
