Romeoville, Ill. - Bellarmine University scored a goal in each half to claim the 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Lewis University men's soccer team on Sunday (Oct. 11) afternoon.
"We fought the wind in the first half, but I thought we created some opportunities and played well," Lewis head men's soccer coach
Evan Fiffles said. "The second half was disappointing, because we had the wind behind us and didn't play our game where we possess the ball and create opportunities."
With the victory, Bellarmine improves to 8-5 overall and 6-4 in conference action, while the host Flyers fall to 1-10-1 on the campaign and 1-8-1 in GLVC play.
Bellarmine received a first-half goal from senior Brandon Shuck (33:19) and a second-half score from junior Beau Laufer (73:18).
Bellarmine outshot Lewis, 18-8, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
BU goalkeeper Zach Pogue made two saves to earn the shutout victory, while Lewis netminder
Justin Salazar (Elburn, Ill./Hinckley Big Rock) turned away four Knight shots.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (Oct. 16), as the Flyers travel to Rolla, Mo., for a 7:30 PM showdown with Missouri S&T.
