Drury took a 1-0 lead to halftime after a goal in the 41
st minute. Mariah Gove scored on a penalty kick.
"I think we got off to a pretty good start," Lewis head coach
Chris Koenig said. "Drury had two really good chances in the first half, and one ended in the penalty kick. To give up a PK in the final five minutes was a tough way to end the first half. In the final second half Drury just out executed us. They were sharper on the ball than we were and they made better decisions than we did."
It stayed 1-0 until Drury scored three quick goals in the final 20 minutes of the game. Grove scored in the 72
nd and 79
th minute while teammate Emily Cline scored in the 78
th minute.
"Late in the game we moved to three in the back to throw numbers up front and they caught us," Koenig said. "At that point we had to do something to get back in the game instead of riding it out."
Senior
Maggie Moran (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) led Lewis with three shots.
Drury improves to 7-3-4 (6-3-3 GLVC). Lewis falls to 8-5-2 (6-4-2 GLVC). The Flyers return to action on Friday (Oct. 23) in a 5 p.m. start with Rockhurst at Lewis Stadium.
