Springfield, Ill. -
Illinois Springfield junior forward Zachary Allevi recorded a hat trick, including two goals in the final seven minutes, to lift the host Prairie Stars to the 3-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Lewis University at Kiwanis Stadium on Friday (Oct. 2) evening.

"We're not a very smart team right now and we're beating ourselves," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said.

With the win, UIS improves to 3-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in conference action, while the visiting Flyers fall to 0-8-1 on the campaign and 0-6-1 in GLVC play.

Lewis got on the board first as senior Krystian Nowak (Bridgeview, Ill./Argo) took a feed from senior Robert Zieba (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) and beat UIS goalkeeper Tommy Geile from 12-yards out at the 18:51 mark.

That lead was short-lived, as Allevi headed in a pass from Khalid Dhalla just 33 seconds later to even the score up at 1-apiece.

The score would remain that way until the 84th minute, as UIS was awarded a penalty kick. Lewis goalkeeper Christian Brunet (Huntsville, Ontario/Huntsville) saved the Allevi PK, but Allevi headed in the rebound for the go-ahead score at the 83:25 mark.

Allevi added an insurance goal at the 87:11 mark, as he took a pass from Zach Downing and beat Brunet to the left corner.

Lewis recorded a season-high 16 shots, including eight on goal, while UIS had 13 total shots and seven shots on frame. Brunet made four saves for the Flyers, while Geile stopped seven shots.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 4), as the Flyer head to Lebanon, Ill., for a 2:30 PM kickoff against McKendree.
