LEBANON, Ill.
– No. 18 Lewis women's volleyball's fifth consecutive five-set match did not end as well as the first four. The Flyers dropped a 3-2 (29-31, 31-29, 25-13, 22-25, 15-12) decision at McKendree on Saturday (Oct. 24) in a nearly two and a half hour marathon of a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.

The Flyers handed 48 points to the Bearcats by the way of 37 attack errors and 11 service errors.

The teams traded 31-29 victories in the first two sets. Lewis was in position to go up 2-0 as the Flyers had seven set points in set two before McKendree rallied to win the frame.

In the fifth, sophomore Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) put Lewis up 12-11 on a kill from freshman Abby Becker (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Monomonee Falls). But it would be Lewis' final point. Two McKendree kills and two Lewis attack errors followed to give the match to McKendree.

"We had multiple opportunities in the second and fifth sets to score at key moments and our lack of communication and understanding of roles caused us to lose those points," Lewis head coach Lorelee Smith said. "In a match where the other team is this strong, you just won't win that way."

Sophomore Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) led Lewis with 18 kills. Senior Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) hit .364 with 15 kills and six digs.

McKendree out-hit Lewis .199 to .147.

The loss snaps Lewis' 21-match win streak.

McKendree improves to 15-8 (9-2 GLVC). Lewis falls to 22-2 (10-1 GLVC). The Flyers return home on Friday (Oct. 30) to face GLVC West leading Rockhurst. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
