ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior rightside hitter Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) became the seventh Flyer in the rally scoring era to record her 1,000th career kill on Tuesday (Oct. 6) evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at UW-Parkside. She helped No. 21 Lewis women's volleyball rally for a 3-2 (19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 16-14) win over the Rangers.

Davito finished the contest with 13 kills, bringing her career total to 1,009. She is also nearing another milestone. She owns 135 career aces, second in the rally scoring era, one behind Lauren Hatter's (2005-08) 136.

Not only did the Flyers find themselves down 0-2 in the match, they were trailing set four 18-14. Lewis then closed the fourth on a 11-3 run to steal the frame. Lewis turned digs into points with nine of the 11 points coming by way of a kill. The final point was an ace by sophomore Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall).

Lewis' momentum seemed to carry into the fifth when Lewis scored the first four points. Then, it all stopped. UW-Parkside quickly grabbed those four points back to tie it. A Davito kill halted the Rangers for a moment, but four more UW-Parkside points followed to put the Flyers down 8-5 when the squads switched benches. Lewis pushed back and tied it at 10 on an ace by sophomore Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn). Lewis took the lead at 13-12 following a long rally with impressive digs on both sides that ended with a UW-Parkside attack attempt going wide. It took two match points, but Lewis won it on a block by freshman McKenna Pierson (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) and Schneider for point 16.

Seliga and Hyland each had 14 kills. Schneider added 13. Three Flyers recorded 20 plus digs in a match that saw Lewis record 102 as a team. Hyland had 23 and Seliga added 20, both career bests. Junior Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) pitched in 20.

"Parkside is a great team," Lewis head coach Lorelee Smith said. "They are in control, fast and attack. We didn't show up with a fighting attitude tonight and our play reflected that. We really need to work harder in our own gym in order to take the next step.

UW-Parkside falls to 10-6 (4-3 GLVC). Lewis improves to 16-1 (7-0 GLVC).

The Flyers have won 15 straight matches. Lewis returns to the court on Friday in a 7 p.m. match with Southern Indiana.
