PDF BoxRENSSELAER, Ind. – No. 23 Lewis women's volleyball out-hit Saint Joseph's .210 to .043 on Saturday (Nov. 14) afternoon to sweep the Pumas 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 in a Great Lakes Conference match. The win, combined with a loss by McKendree to Southern Indiana on Saturday, gives Lewis a share of the 2015 GLVC East Division Championship.
Senior Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) led Lewis with nine kills. Sophomore
Aly Schneider (Granger, Ind./Penn) added eight kills. Sophomore
Maddie Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) also had eight kills with the addition of five aces.
The closest set was the second. Lewis had a 23-11 lead only to see Saint Joseph's push back with a 7-1 run. The Flyers eventually won the set by five points."Getting a share of the division wasn't something we were thinking about," Lewis head coach Lorelee Smith said. "Many teams in the league had much more to play for this weekend than we did, for us it was finding that fight within as we enter the postseason."Saint Joseph's finishes their 2015 season 8-21 (3-15 GLVC) while Lewis improves to 27-4 (15-3 GLVC).
The Flyers return to the court for the GLVC Tournament on Friday, November 20. Lewis is the No. 2 seed in the East and will play No. 3 seed in the West Drury in the opening round. The match with the Panthers will start at 5 p.m. All GLVC Tournament games will be played at the EastSide Center in East Peoria, Illinois and air online on GLVCSN. Though McKendree and Lewis tied for the East Division Championship, McKendree earns the No. 1 East seed thanks to defeating Lewis in the regular season.
