The Flyers are the No. 2 seed in the East. Drury is the No. 3 seed in the West. Should the Flyers win, they would play the winner of Rockhurst-UW-Parkside on Saturday (Nov. 21) at 5:30 p.m.
Lewis is 12-1 all-time against Drury. The Flyers have won the last 12 matches with Drury's only victory coming in 2005. The Flyers have won those 12 matches by a combined set record of 36-2. Lewis and Drury have met three times in the GLVC Tournament, playing in the opening round in 2008 (3-0), 2010 (3-0) and 2011 (3-0). In the 2011 match, Lewis out-hit Drury .304 to .042. The Flyers out-blocked Drury 15-3.
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) was a redshirt on the 2011 squad.
Lewis has qualified for 16 consecutive GLVC Tournaments.
Freshman
Elizabeth Hyland (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) owns 298 kills and 349 digs. She needs just two more digs to become the first Lewis freshman since Stephanie Sagat (2006) to record 300 kills and 300 digs in her freshman campaign. Sagat tallied 349 kills and 304 on her way to GLVC Freshman of the Year honors in 2006. She would go on to become the GLVC Player of the Year as a senior in 2009.
Alexis Davito (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport)'s 47 aces this season is a new Lewis rally scoring era single-season record. Her total bests the record 46 she recorded last year.
Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North)'s 581 digs are the third most in a season in Lewis history. Only ahead of her are
Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills)'s 601 in 2012 and Ashlee Lindish's 638 in 2007.
Nicole Yuede (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North)'s 42 digs against Truman State (Nov. 7) set a Lewis rally scoring era single-match record.
The Flyers have played nine five-set matches this season, going 6-3 in the contests. Lewis had a stretch of six straight five-set contests, going 4-2 in the matches. The nine five set contests are the most in a single season in school history. The previous high was six. All three of Lewis' GLVC losses this season have come in five sets.
Since
Lorelee Smith became Lewis' head coach in 2007, the Flyers are 16-5 all-time in the GLVC Tournament. That record includes GLVC Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2010. As well as runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2012.
Lewis' eight GLVC Championships are the most of all active GLVC members. Former GLVC foe IPFW also won eight titles.
The Flyers enter the GLVC Tournament ranked No. 23 in the nation. Lewis has ranked as high as No. 18 this season.
