Romeoville, Ill. -
The Lewis University men's basketball team heads to Ohio for its final road trip of 2015, as the Flyers (7-2) meet Malone (3-5) for a 3 PM ET regional tip-off at Osborne Hall on Saturday (Dec. 19) afternoon.
Live stats of Saturday's contest - provided by Malone - can be found at LewisFlyers.com.

LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis, led by a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds from freshman guard Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg), led from start to finish as the Flyers earned the 91-62 regional victory over Malone in the final game of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge at Neil Carey Arena on November 15, 2014.

ALL-TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 2-0 advantage over the Pioneers in their all-time series.

LAST TIME OUT - Strus recorded his sixth double-double of the season with a game-high 33 points and 12 rebounds, helping the host Flyers to the 83-67 non-conference victory over Olivet Nazarene on December 9th. For his efforts, Strus was selected as the GLVC Player of the Week for the period ending (Dec. 13).

FOSTER (AUSTRALIAN FOR BUCKETS) - Senior forward Brad Foster (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) is shooting a GLVC-best 77.1% (27-for-35) from the field this season (as of Dec. 14).

DOUBLE DOUBLES - Lewis has recorded nine double-doubles in nine games this season. The Flyers totaled five double-doubles for the entire 2014-15 campaign.

DOUBLE DOUBLES (PART DEUX) - Lewis junior guard Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) notched a double-double of 17 points and 11 assists against Northwood (Nov. 24). It was the first point/assist double-double by a Flyer since Brandon Dagans had 20 points and 10 assists against Carthage on December 30, 2006.

RECORD-BREAKER (AND TYING) - Strus broke the Flyer single-game scoring record of 46, with 52 points on 14-for-18 shooting, including an amazing 12-for-14 from three-point range in the 99-95 win over Northwood (Nov. 24). That outing surpasses the previous Lewis record set by John Lucas during the 1969-70 campaign. His 52 points also ties the GLVC single-game record, set by LaVontay Fenderson (UW-Parkside, 2009) and Gary Paul (Indianapolis, 1988).

RECORD-BREAKER?? - Based on available records, Strus' 12 three-pointers against Northwood is the most trifectas by a Flyer dating back to the 1996-97 campaign. Lewis' 17 three-pointers as a team, are also the most by a Flyer squad since 1996-97.

GIVE THAT MAN AN AWARD (OR TWO) - Strus averaged 38 points and 13 rebounds in victories over Northwood (Nov. 24) and Wayne State (Nov. 28). For his efforts, he was named both the GLVC and USBWA National Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 29th.

GETTIN' IT DONE - Strus (25.8 ppg./10.4 rpg.) currently leads the Flyers and the GLVC in both scoring and rebounding (as of Dec. 11). The last Flyer to lead his team in scoring and rebounding was Monta McGhee (19.1 ppg./8.6 rpg.) in 2003-04. Strus is averaging 8.78 defensive rebounds-per-game, which is also a GLVC-best.

TOURNAMENT TESTED - Lewis is the only team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference that has advanced to the GLVC Quarterfinals in each of the past nine seasons.

RANKED SCHMANKED - Lewis has defeated at least one nationally-ranked Division II team in each of the last five seasons - including last season's 70-61 win over then No. 1 ranked Indianapolis.

TOUGH CROWD - Entering the season, Lewis has averaged over 20 wins in the last three years with 62 total victories. That would put them sixth overall among GLVC teams in total wins behind league leader and 2013 National Champion, Drury (80).

HE'S A LEGACY - Strus is the brother of former Flyer standout Marty Strus (2008-12). Marty is Lewis' all-time leader in blocked shots (181).

CLOSE CALLS - Four of Lewis' nine contests this season have been decided by four or fewer points; or have gone to overtime.

REAPING THE BENEFITS - Simelton leads the GLVC in assists, averaging 5.0 helpers-per-game. 48.9% (22-for-45) of his assists have led directly to Strus baskets.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Junior guard Capel Henshaw (Harrisburg, Ill./Harrisburg) is shooting 47.6% (10-for-21) from three-point range in his last three games, including a pair of five trifecta games. He is a career 44.3% (82-for-185) three-point shooter, putting him third in school-history.

CRASHING THE GLASS - Lewis has had four games of 40 or more rebounds this season. The Flyers totaled seven 40+ rebound games for the entire 2014-15 campaign.

CREEPIN' ON 1,000 - If senior center Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) maintains his current 12.1 scoring average, he is on pace to crack the 1,000-point mark for his career in the final regular season contest against UW-Parkside (Feb. 25). He currently has 781 points.
