Men's Volleyball | 2/19/2015 12:07:00 PM

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 2 Lewis University men's volleyball team is set to host Penn State on Friday (Feb. 20) at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers were also going to play Erskine on Saturday, but that match has been postponed due to weather preventing Erskine from making the trip from South Carolina.

Friday night's Penn State match will feature LUTN's inaugural Flyers Gameday broadcast. The student produced pregame show will be hosted in the stands of Neil Carey Arena. The pregame show will feature live interviews and feature pieces on the team. Fans are encouraged to arrive at 6:15 p.m. to watch the broadcast and show off their best hand-made signs. Friday's match is also a Red Out, with fans encouraged to wear red to the match.

Fans that cannot attend the match will be able to watch the Flyers Gameday show and the match at www.LewisFlyers.com/watch.

VS. PENN STATE – The Flyers picked up a 3-1 road victory over the Nittany Lions earlier this season (Jan. 24). Seniors Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) and Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) each hit over .300 with 10 plus kills. Petty led the trio hitting .378 with 18 kills and four errors in 37 attempts. The win at Penn State was the first for the Flyers under head coach Dan Friend. Last season Lewis fell in four sets at home in the regular season and in four sets in the NCAA Tournament to Penn State.

A "ROARING" COMBACK – Penn State had been winless during the first six matches of their season, but will come to Neil Carey Arena winners of four out of their last five matches. Their only loss in this stretch was a loss to Ohio State. Penn State is 0-5 against Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association teams this season.

WIN STREAK – The Flyers enter Friday's contest on a nine-match win streak. A win on Friday over Penn State would mark the second time in the Dan Friend era that Lewis has won 10 contests in a row. The first time came in 2013 when Lewis won 13 in a row.

ALL HANDS ON SET – The Flyers have yet to lose a third or fourth set this season. Lewis is 12-0 in set three and 4-0 in set four.

ACES WILD – Lewis enters Friday night's match more than doubling the amount of service aces (63-31) as their opponents. Senior Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) is second among active leaders in the nation with 101 career service aces. Penn State's Aaron Russell is the nation's active leader in career aces (153).

ATTEMPT TO KILL – Lewis senior Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) is ranked third among active leaders in kills with 1,158. Powell is the current active leader in attempts with 2,439.

COMING UP – Lewis hosts Lindenwood on Friday (Feb. 27) and Quincy (Feb. 28) in MIVA play next week.
