No. 2 Lewis Men's Volleyball Hosts Two MIVA Matches This Weekend

The No. 2 Lewis University men's volleyball team (12-1, 3-0 MIVA) is set to host Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponents Lindenwood (4-4, 2-3 MIVA) and Quincy (9-6, 3-4 MIVA) at Neil Carey Arena this Friday (Feb. 27) and Saturday (Feb 28). Friday's match is set for 7 p.m. First serve for Saturday's (Feb. 28) contest will be at 4 p.m., it will be military appreciation night. Fans that cannot attend each match will be able to watch it at www.LewisFlyers.com/watch.

LAST TIME WE MET - LINDENWOOD – April 5, 2014 – The Flyers defeated the Lions 3-1. Lewis' Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) registered a .346 hitting percentage and picked up 15 kills with six errors on 26 swings. Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) hit .345 and recorded 15 kills and five errors on 29 swings. Lewis held Lindenwood to a .178 hitting percentage for the match and .000 in the fourth set to win the contest.

LAST TIME WE MET - QUINCY – April 4, 2014 – Lewis swept Quincy. Lewis opposite hitter Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) had an impressive night at the net, hitting .778 with seven kills and zero errors in nine swings. Flyer outside hitter Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) hit .529 with 10 kills and one error in 17 attempts. Quincy hit .013 for the match as Lewis held them to negative hitting percentages in the second (-.048) and third (-.074) sets. 

ALL MIVA FROM HERE – Friday's match begins the second half of the Flyers' season, and welcomes all MIVA opponents until the end of the season. Lewis is one of two, Loyola being the other, remaining undefeated teams in conference play.

IPFW MATCH RESCHEDULED – The home match with IPFW which was postponed earlier this year has been rescheduled for Tuesday (March 17) at 7 p.m.

ATTENTION PLEASE – The Flyers are riding a ten-match win streak after their win over Penn State Friday (Feb. 20). This marks the second time in the Dan Friend era the Flyers have won ten straight matches. The first time came in 2013 when Lewis won 13 in a row.

BEST WALSH-ES – Junior Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) won both the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week and the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week awards this week. He recorded a career-high 12 blocks in the Flyers' victory over Penn State (Feb. 20). Walsh comes enters Friday's match second in the nation in blocks per set (1.59) behind his brother, Ball State freshman Matt Walsh (1.75).

STAY TUNED FOR – Lewis will travel to Loyola (March 9) and Ohio State (March 13) for two MIVA contests.
