Game Notes (PDF)

Romeoville, Ill. -
The fifth-seeded Lewis University men's basketball team seeks its ninth-straight berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Quarterfinals, as the Flyers (20-7) welcome 12th-seeded Illinois Springfield (11-15) to Neil Carey Arena for a GLVC First Round match-up on Sunday (March 1). Tip-off is slated for 3 PM.
Live stats and video streaming of Sunday's contest can be found at www.LewisFlyers.com. The game can also be heard on www.LewisFlyers.com and WJOL (1340 AM) with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play action for the Lewis Sports Network.

ALL-TIME SERIES - Since Lewis entered the Division II ranks, the Flyers hold a 9-3 advantage over UIS in their all-time series

LAST TIME WE MET - Lewis senior guard Ryan Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) posted a team-season high 30 points, including 23 second-half points, and went 16-for-20 from the free throw line to lift the Flyers to the 83-78 win over UIS on February 19th in Springfield.

LAST TIME WE MET IN TOURNAMENT - Lewis senior guard Chris McClellan led four Flyers in double-figures with 19 points as the Flyers led from start to finish in a 75-68 GLVC First Round win over UIS in Springfield on February 26, 2012.

TOURNAMENT TESTED - In five GLVC Tournament contests, Jackson is averaging 18 points-per-game, including a 30-point performance against Southern Indiana in 2013.

LAST TIME OUT - Lewis was unable to overcome a 30.3% shooting performance in the first half, as No. 8 UW-Parkside snapped the Flyers' eight-game winning streak with the 73-68 victory on Thursday (Feb. 26) night.

COMEBACK FOR THE AGES - Lewis rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit, including being down six points with less than 20 seconds left, in their 74-73 win over William Jewell on February 5th. That is the biggest Flyer comeback since they rallied from a 16-point, first-half deficit in an 84-70 win over Alaska Anchorage on November 13, 2010.

WE SHOCKED THE WORLD - Lewis' 70-61 win over Indianapolis on January 31st was its first victory over a No. 1 ranked team since an 82-77 triumph over Southern Indiana on January 2, 2004 in Evansville. That win marks the fifth-straight season that Lewis has defeated a nationally-ranked opponent.

TOP 10 - Jackson (1,700 points) is fifth in school-history in career points. He needs 54 points to pass Ron Lesiak (1990-94) for fourth place.

THE LAST TIME - Lewis guard Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) has recorded two double-doubles in his freshman campaign for the Flyers. He is the first Flyer rookie to record a double-double since his brother Marty Strus (2008-12) accomplished that feat in 2008.

WELL DONE ROOKIE - Strus has scored at least 20 points in a game four times this season. He is the first Flyer freshman to score 20 points in a game since Jackson did it in 2011-12.

TOTALLY TO THE MAX - Strus is the highest scoring (22nd, 13.2 ppg.) freshman in the GLVC.

REGIONAL RANKINGS - Lewis is No. 7 in the most recent NCAA Midwest Regional rankings announced on Wednesday (Feb. 25).

WINNING WITH CLASS - Lewis' current senior class (2011) has recorded the most victories by a Scott Trost recruiting class with 77.

1,000/700 ON THE HORIZON - Senior forward Julian Lewis (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) needs 10 points to reach 1,000 for his career and become just the fourth Flyer in school history to notch at least 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in the Division II era.

POINTS IN THE PAINT - The Flyers have a decisive advantage down low, as Lewis is averaging 37.1 points-per-game in the paint to their opponents' 21.7.

POUNDING THE GLASS - Lewis currently holds a +5.6 rebounding margin over their opponents through 27 games this season. That would be the highest rebounding margin of any Flyer team under Trost's tenure. The previous high under Trost was +4.2 in 2007-08.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis has hit at least 10 three-pointers in five games this season. That's the most times the Flyers have hit at least 10 trifectas since they did it five times during the 2011-12 campaign.

POURING IN POINTS - Lewis has scored 90+ points four times this season in 27 contests. That's the most times the Flyers have reached the 90-point plateau since they did it four times during the 2005-06 campaign.

SIZEABLE VICTORIES - Lewis has had 11 victories of 20+ points or more this season, which is the most by a Flyer team during the Division II era (1980-present).

CLOSE CALLS - Lewis' seven losses have been by an average of 4.9 points-per-game. Three of those losses have come to two teams who are currently ranked in the Top 10 in the Nation (No. 2 Bellarmine and No. 8 UW-Parkside). Six of the seven losses have come to teams that are currently ranked in the Midwest Region.

FROM LONG RANGE - Sophomore guard Capel Henshaw (Harrisburg, Ill./Harrisburg) is currently second in school-history in career three-point FG%, as he has converted 45.0% (59-for-131) of his attempts.

DISHING DIMES - Jackson has recorded a career-high 102 assists this season. That's the most helpers by a Flyer player since Matthew Marino notched 133 during the 2006-07 campaign.

SMOKIN' HOT - Lewis has won 49 of its last 64 contests dating back to the 2012-13 campaign for a winning percentage of .766.

20/20 CLUB - Lewis has won at least 20 games for the second-straight season. The last time the Flyers had back-to-back 20+ wins season was from 2002-04.

NINE TIMES - Should Lewis defeat UIS, it would mark the ninth-straight season that the Flyers have advanced to the GLVC Quarterfinals. No other school in the conference can make that claim.
