No. 2 Men's Volleyball Plays At No. 11 Ohio State On Friday

Coming off a victory over No. 1 Loyola on Monday, No. 2 Lewis men's volleyball hits the road for a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association contest on Friday (March 13) at 7 p.m. ET at No. 11 Ohio State. Lewis is 15-1 and 6-0 in MIVA play. Ohio Sate is 13-4 and 6-2 in the MIVA.
 
VS. THE BUCKEYES – Lewis is on a five-match winning streak over the Buckeyes with the Flyers' last loss coming March 31, 2012 in Columbus 3-0. The five-match win streak includes a win at Ohio State on April 28, 2012 in the MIVA Championship. The Flyers are 9-13 against the Buckeyes during the Dan Friend era (2005 to present).

WHOA THAT WAS FAST – In just 16 matches, this is the fastest Lewis has reached 15 wins in a season in program history.

ALL MIVA FROM HERE – Lewis is closing the season with 11 consecutive MIVA matches.
 
SET IT UP – Lewis has yet to lose a third or fourth set this season. The Flyers are 16-0 in the third set and 6-0 in the fourth set.
 
IPFW MATCH RESCHEDULED – The home match with IPFW which was postponed earlier this year has been rescheduled for Tuesday (March 17) at 7 p.m.
 
THEY CALL IT THE STREAK – The Flyers enter Friday's match on a 13-match win streak. It is tied for the longest win streak during the Dan Friend era. The 2013 squad also won 13 matches.
 
MIVA, FOR STARTERS – Lewis' 6-0 start to MIVA play this year is their best since 2013, when Lewis opened conference play 8-0. The 8-0 start in 2013 is the best during the Dan Friend era.
 
IT'S A MAJOR AWARD – Junior Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) won both the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week and the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week awards on Feb. 22 after recording 12 blocks in a 3-1 win over Penn State on Feb. 20.
 
MIVA HONORS – Other than Walsh, two other Flyers have won a weekly MIVA honor this year. Senior Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) was named Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 13 and senior Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) earned the same honor on Feb. 10.
 
BOOM BOOM POWELL – Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont)'s 1,128 career kills rank ninth all-time in Lewis history and sixth during the rally scoring era (2001-present). Powell is moving closer to former teammate, fifth in the rally scoring era Jay Petty (2010-13). Petty owns 1,205 kills.
 
BIG SHOES TO FILL – Junior Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) is in his first season as the starting setter for the Flyers. He replaced four-year starter and three-time AVCA All-American BJ Boldog (Palatine, Ill./Palatine). The now professional player Boldog graduated with 4,385 assists, third most in Lewis history. So far Fifer has made an impressive transition. Fifer is averaging 9.66 assists per set and guiding a Lewis offense hitting .344, third best in the nation.
 
GREAT WALL OF LEWIS – The Flyers are second in the nation in blocks with 3.14 per set.
 
BROTHERLY LOVE – Junior Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) ranks second in the nation with an average of 1.53 blocks per set. His younger brother Matt Walsh leads the nation as a member of the Ball State Cardinals. Matt is averaging 1.58 per set.
