No. 2 Lewis (15-2, 6-1 MIVA) welcomes No. 14 IPFW (14-6, 4-3 MIVA) to Neil Carey Arena on Tuesday (March 17) in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match. First serve is 7 p.m. The match was scheduled for earlier this season but was rescheduled after weather in Indiana prevented IPFW from safely making the trip to Romeoville.
VS. IPFW – In their last meeting (March 27, 2014), Lewis came back to beat IPFW 3-2 after being down 2-1 heading into the fourth set. In the fifth set the Flyers held the Mastodons to a .148 hitting percentage to complete the comeback win. Lewis is 13-8 against IPFW during the
Dan Friend era.
ON THE BALL – This will be the final season for Mastodons head coach Arnie Ball. In his 34 years with IPFW the legendary head coach has accumulated over 500 career wins.
STREAK STOPPED – Lewis saw a 13-match win streak snapped last Friday in a dramatic 3-2 (25-23, 25-27, 34-32, 16-25, 16-14) loss at No. 11 Ohio State.
FOUR MORE – Lewis is 7-0 in set number four this year.
IT'S A MAJOR AWARD – Junior
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) won both the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week and the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week awards on Feb. 22 after recording 12 blocks in a 3-1 win over Penn State on Feb. 20.
MIVA HONORS – Other than Walsh, two other Flyers have won a weekly MIVA honor this year. Senior
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) was named Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 13 and senior
Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) earned the same honor on Feb. 10.
GREAT WALL OF LEWIS – The Flyers lead the nation in blocks with 3.17 per set.
BROTHERLY LOVE – Junior
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) ranks second in the nation with an average of 1.53 blocks per set. His younger brother Matt Walsh leads the nation as a member of the Ball State Cardinals. Matt is averaging 1.55 per set.
