PDF Box ScoreROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 2 Lewis men's volleyball made quick work of Lindenwood 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-12) on Friday (April 10) night in a road Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association win for the Flyers. The contest was completed in a snappy one hour and 20 minutes.
Lewis cruised to the win by outscoring the Lions 75-40 and only trailing twice. The Flyers opened leads of 5-0, 8-3 and 9-1, respectively, to leave little drama in any of the three sets
The Flyers out-hit Lindenwood .524 to .110. Lewis had only six hitting errors in the entire match. The .524 mark is a single match high for the Flyers this year.
Senior
Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) finished with 13 kills. Senior
Eric Fitterer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) recorded 10 kills and six aces.
"Fitt was great from the service line," Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said. "Six service aces in 20 attempts is phenomenal, he really put pressure on them."
Lewis out-blocked Lindenwood 8.5 to 2.5 with junior
Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel) leading the way thanks to five block assists.
Lindenwood's Colin Hackworth entered the match averaging 3.92 kills per set, second most in the league. Lewis limited Hackworth to eight kills (2.67 per set) on 29 attempts for a .069 hitting percentage.
"The guys were great tonight," Friend said. "We came in and put a ton of pressure on them from the service line and it gave us a better chance of reading the setter against a guy like Hackworth."
Lindenwood falls to 11-10 (6-8 MIVA). Lewis improves to 21-2 (12-1 MIVA). The Flyers play at Quincy on Saturday in a 7 p.m. MIVA contest.
