Belleville, Mo. - Despite losing two of three doubles matches, the Lewis University men's tennis team rallied with five singles wins en route to the 6-3 non-conference victory over Lindenwood in the regular-season finale at the Lindenwood Tennis Courts on Sunday (April 12) afternoon.
With the win, Lewis improves to 12-7 overall, while the host Lions are now 4-10.
Lewis' lone doubles win came at No. 1, where senior
Armand Levandi (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) and sophomore
Mate Srdanovic (Split, Croatia/Graditeljsko-Geodetska Tehnicka) claimed the 8-0 triumph over Johannes Rabenhorst and Yoshikazu Ysa. Levandi went on to blank Filip Bogic, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Srdanovic dropped Naoufal El Idrissi, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
At No. 2 singles, Lewis'
Erik Aunapuu (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigumnaasiumi) picked up the 6-2, 6-2 win over Ysa, while Flyer freshman
Andre Norasith (Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) defeated Rabenhorst, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.
Lewis' final victory came at No. 5 singles, where freshman
Alan Fijalkowski (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) earned the 6-2, 6-2 win over Anvar Akhmetov.
Lewis returns to action on Friday (April 17), as they meet Missouri-St. Louis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference Quarterfinal match-up at 12 PM at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City.
