ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis baseball played their final non-conference contest of the season on Tuesday (April 28) afternoon. The Flyers fell to No. 14 Grand Valley State 6-3 at Brennan Field.

The Flyers tied the game at one on a wild pitch in the third inning that scored senior Kane Lombardo (Forest Park, Ill./Nazareth) from third. Grand Valley scored single runs in each of the middle innings to grab a 4-1 lead after six. Lewis made it a one-run game again in the eighth. Junior Kurt Becker (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) knocked in senior Jared Pyatt (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and freshman Ethan Bloom (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) with a two-out single. GVSU, however, got those runs back in the ninth to make it a 6-3 game. The Flyers made some noise in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't push any runs across after a pair of singles.

"We had a chance after Kurt's big hit and had some momentum going there," Lewis head coach Tim McDonough said. "I didn't think we played our best baseball today but we have a big weekend ahead of us and it was a good midweek test for us today."

Lewis starter freshman Eric Luecht (Lake In The Hills, Ill./Huntley) allowed four runs (three earned) in 5.2 innings of work. He took the loss and is now 2-5. Josh Griffith is 2-0 after allowing one run in five innings for GVSU. Matt Williams threw the final 1.1 for his ninth save of the season.

Pyatt and junior Brandon Collins (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way North) each had two hits for Lewis.

GVSU improves to 28-14. Lewis falls to 21-22. The Flyers welcome Indianapolis to Romeoville this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 12:30 p.m. start following the Memorial Mass for Lewis great Gordie Gillespie Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Sancta Alberta Chapel on Lewis' campus.
