ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – For the fourth consecutive season, the Flyers are going to the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship. No. 1 Lewis advanced to the 2015 final with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-18) win over Lindenwood in the MIVA Semifinals at Neil Carey Arena on Tuesday (April 28).

The 2015 MIVA Championship will be played Friday (May 1) at 7 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena. Lewis will host the winner of Ohio State-Loyola. The Buckeyes and Ramblers are playing their semifinal match on Wednesday evening. Fans can purchase tickets online to be picked up at will call for Friday's match at this link.

Fifth-seeded Lindenwood played their best set of volleyball against the top-seeded Flyers all season in the opening frame on Tuesday. A 7-0 run, fueled by six Lewis attack errors and a service error, put the Lions up 9-7. Lewis took the lead back at 16-15 on a solo bock by junior Bobby Walsh (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel). The score was tied at 21 when Lewis finished the set on a 4-1 run. Sophomore Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) had kills for points 22 and 24.

The second set was all Lewis. The Flyers out-hit the Lions .476 to -.143 in the game. Lindenwood called their first timeout of the set at 14-7 following a block by senior Greg Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and Schmiegelt.

The Flyers played like the No. 1 team in the nation in the third, never trailing and winning by seven points to clinch their spot in the championship.

"We've had a great regular season but you have to turn that page when you get into postseason play," Lewis head coach Dan Friend said. "The guys have done a really nice job of being great in the first six games and getting a shot at the MIVA Championship."

Senior Lucas Yanez (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) tied a season high with 12 digs. Three seniors notched double-digit kills. Petty had a match-high 13. Geoff Powell (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) hit .588 with 11 kills and just one error. Fitterer added 11 kills. Lewis out-blocked Lindenwood 11.5 to 4.5 with the nation's blocks leader Walsh recording six (three solos).

For the match, the Flyers out-hit the Lions .387 to .038. Junior Scott Fifer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) dished out 40 assists, tying a season high for a three set match. Tuesday was the first time all season Lewis didn't record an ace in a match. The last time Lewis failed to record an ace was March 23, 2013 at Quincy.

Lindenwood ends the season 13-12. Lewis moves to 26-2. It matches the season high in wins for the Flyers under Friend. The 2012 team also won 26 matches.
