The front end of the Lewis University men's soccer team's schedule is loaded with quality opponents and the Flyers are finding out what they're made of very quickly.

The Flyers took on the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason favorite, Indianapolis, on Friday (Sept. 11) night, and Lewis battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie with the visiting Greyhounds in both team's GLVC opener at Lewis Stadium.

"We've probably already played three of the five best teams we'll see all season," Lewis head men's soccer coach Evan Fiffles said. "Indianapolis is a very good team who was picked to win our conference."

Fiffles saw glimpses of what the Flyers are capable of in the second half, led by senior Krystian Nowak (Bridgeview, Ill./Argo)'s six shots.

"We need to play like we did in the beginning of the second half on a consistent basis," Fiffles said. "We still don't do things as fast as we need to do it."

With the tie, Lewis is now 0-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in GLVC action, while the Greyhounds move to 1-1-1 on the campaign and 0-0-1 in conference play.

Lewis goalkeeper Justin Salazar (Elburn, Ill./Hinckley Big Rock) and Indianapolis netminder Christopher Jones both made three saves to earn shutouts.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 13), as the Flyers travel to Indiana to take on Saint Joseph's for a 2:30 PM kickoff.
