At the 3:40 mark sophomore
Mackenzie Fuller (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) headed in a cross from senior
Megan Szubert (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) to make the score 1-0. The goal is Fullers' third of the season.
"We had the great start with the goal and it kind of changed the game," Lewis head coach
Chris Koenig said. "In the second half it wasn't always pretty but we were able to get behind the ball and organize defensively and force Indy to chase the game a little bit."
Both teams finished with eight shots and four corner kicks in the game. Sophomore
Jennifer Meyer (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) recorded one save to earn Lewis' third shutout of the season.
"It wasn't a typical game for us as I thought Indy played really well," Koenig said. "Their system gave us challenges."
Indianapolis falls to 1-2 (0-1 GLVC). Lewis improves to 3-1 (1-0 GLVC) with their fifth straight win over the Greyhounds. Lewis returns to the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 13) in a noon start at Saint Joseph's.
