ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – A match with 41 ties and 17 lead changes went in the favor of the visitors, as the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash defeated No. 9 Lewis men's volleyball 3-2 (26-24, 21-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-8) on Friday (Jan. 15) evening at Neil Carey Arena in a non-conference contest.

Lewis played from behind the entire match after dropping sets one and three.

The third set had 20 ties and six lead changes. It was 16-16 in the third when the two clubs took turns siding out all the way to 23-23. The Red Flash put the set away with a kill by Jeff Hogan for point 24 and a kill by Stephen Braswell for point 25.

The Flyers dominated the fourth set and seemed to take that momentum into the fifth, taking a 4-2 lead. A long rally ensued on the next point which eventually went to the Red Flash on a block. The score was tied at seven when Saint Francis took over with a 7-0 run. The bench switch at eight and two Lewis timeouts couldn't slow down the Red Flash.

Junior Trevor Weiskircher (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) led the Lewis attack with 16 kills while adding seven digs. Senior Patrick Lilly (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) pitched in 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces for a double-double. Senior Will McCall (Fellsmere, Fla./Sebastian River) hit .389 with 10 kills.

The Red Flash out-hit the Flyers .295 to .253 and out-blocked Lewis 12.5 to 7.0.

Lewis falls to 3-2. Saint Francis improves to 1-2. Lewis returns to the court on Saturday (Jan. 16) when No. 10 Penn State comes to Neil Carey Arena for a 7 p.m. first serve. It is a Red Out, fans are encouraged to wear red. The first 50 students will receive a free t-shirt.
