The Lewis University men's basketball team held Saint Joseph's to a 31.3% (21-for-67) shooting performance and forced 13 turnovers as the Flyers claimed the 87-62 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the visiting Pumas on 'Senior Day' at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday (Feb. 20) afternoon.

"I thought our defense was solid (today)," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "We contested some shots and we made it tough on them for the most part.

"We helped one another and we did a decent job of closing out," Trost continued. "I thought our effort was much better in the second half and we were much better in all facets of the game."

Lewis sophomore forward Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) collected a game-high 19 points, including a game-high eight rebounds and five assists.  Flyer junior guard Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) scored 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including two trifectas, and four assists.

Lewis freshman guard Delaney Blaylock (Wyoming, Mich./Godwin Heights) posted 16 points, including three treys, while senior forward Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) pitched in 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including seven rebounds.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 20-7 on the campaign and 12-5 in GLVC action, while the visiting Pumas fall to 8-18 overall and 4-13 on the season. This marks the third-straight season that the Flyers have recorded 20 victories.

As a team, Lewis shot 56.5% (35-for-62) from the field, including a 46.7% (7-for-15) performance from beyond the three-point arc. In the second half, the Flyers shot an amazing 69.0% (20-for-29) from the field and 62.5% (5-for-8) from long range.

SJC sophomore guard Davone Daniels led the Pumas with 16 points, while senior forward Nathan Tidwell pitched in 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. The Pumas also received 12 points and four rebounds from freshman CJ Hardaway.

Lewis wraps up the regular-season on Thursday (Feb. 25), as the Flyers welcome UW-Parkside to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:30 PM tip-off.
