Box Score (PDF) / Box Score (HTML)By Dan MusilekBig Rapids, Mich. – The Lewis University women's tennis team earned a 5-4 regional victory over Ferris State on Sunday (Feb. 21) afternoon at the Ferris State Racquet & Fitness Center.
With the victory, the Flyers improve to 2-0 on the campaign, while the Bulldogs fall to 11-5 on the season.
At No. 1 doubles, Lewis' sophomore duo of
Dora Andrejszki (Budapest, Hungary/Dozsa Gyorgy) and
Nora Mindiyarova (Moscow, Russia/Gimnasium 1577) won 8-5 over Ferris' Shawnee-Ann Brelsford and Nicole Meylor. Â Andrejszki also earned a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Brelsford at No. 1 singles, while Mindiyarova defeated Nika Hein 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, Lewis' senior tandem of
Megan Nguyen (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora) and
Jill Wetmore (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa) defeated Hein and Olga Martinsone, 8-5. Nguyen also earned a 6-2, 7-6 triumph over Meylor at No. 3 singles.
The Flyers return to action this Friday (Feb. 26) as they travel to Springfield, Mo., to take on Drury in a non-conference match-up at 8 PM.
