Rosemont, Ill. - After an eye-opening 10-2 loss to Ashland in its season-opener, the Lewis University softball team regrouped both at the plate and in the field en route to the 10-0 (5 inn.) regional victory over Upper Iowa at the Dome Invitational on Friday (Feb. 26) afternoon at The Dome At The Ballpark.
With the win, Lewis improves to 1-1 on the season, while the Peacocks fall to 3-7 on the campaign.

Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) twirled a complete-game, one-hit shutout to earn the victory for the Flyers. Schweickert (1-0) added seven strikeouts, while her counterpart Brooke Redmond (2-2) was tagged with the loss. Redmond allowed three runs and three hits in 1.2 innings of work, while striking out three batters.

Jenna Cairo (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick),
Kaylee Prieto (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and junior
Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) batted a combined .500 (5-for-10) with six runs scored and five RBI in the win.
Cairo went 1-for-3 with three runs scored, including a triple, while Prieto ripped a pair of RBI triples to finish 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. Jaworski went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Sophomore designated player
Sarah DeMasi (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) went 2-for-2, while senior catcher
Brittany Russell (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) scored twice.
"It was definitely a nice turnaround to see us come out with the bats, capitalize right away and stringing some hits together," Lewis head softball coach
Becky Pearl said. "Lainie came out in the circle and was really impressive, so that was nice to see."
Pearl lauded her team's resiliency.
"We didn't let the first game negatively impact our second game and we had to show (Upper Iowa) who we really were," Pearl said.
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 27), as the Flyers meet both Findlay (9 AM) and Wayne State (1:30 PM) in second-day action of the Dome Invitational.
