Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team shot a season-best 60.0% (30-for-50) from the field on its way to the 75-71 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Rockhurst University at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Feb. 4) night.

Max Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) led all scorers with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 9-for-13 from the floor and added a team-best five assists in the win. Junior guard
Capel Henshaw (Harrisburg, Ill./Harrisburg) tied career-highs in both points (17) and three-pointers (5) and
Kyle Nelson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) pitched in 11 points for the Flyers.
The Flyers also knocked down 50.0% (7-for-14) of their three-point attempts on the evening and out-rebounded Rockhurst, 33-24.
"As the game went on, we kind of had an idea of what (Rockhurst) was doing (offensively) and we made adjustments," Lewis head men's basketball coach
Scott Trost said. "I'm certainly proud of our effort (tonight), because any win in this league is a good win."
With the victory, Lewis improves to 16-6 overall and 8-4 in GLVC action, while the visiting Hawks drop to 10-10 on the campaign and 5-7 in conference play.
Rockhurst junior guard Josh Roberts topped the Hawks with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Sophomore forward Alex Hagan added 12 points, followed by 11 points and a game-high six assists from junior guard Malachi Nix.
The game was a close knit affair, as the Flyers held a 42-40 lead with 15:20 left in the second half, following a free throw by Rockhurst forward Dominique Washington (6 points, 9 rebounds).
The Flyers responded with a 16-6 run over the next 7:37 to take a 58-46 lead and putting the game away for good. Five different players scored for the Flyers during this stretch, led by four points apiece from senior forward
Brad Foster (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) and junior guard
Miles Simelton (Oswego, Ill./Oswego).
Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 6), as the Flyers welcome William Jewell for a 3 PM tip-off at Neil Carey Arena.
