PDF BoxST. CHARLES, Mo. – No. 13 Lewis men's volleyball earned their second sweep in as many days thanks to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-19) Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association victory at Lindenwood on Saturday (Feb. 6) evening.
The Flyers never trailed in the contest. The match featured only four ties as Lewis jumped on the Lions early in all three sets. The second set was the closest point wise, at only a five-point margin. But that was only because Lindenwood closed the frame scoring eight of the final 13 points to make the final closer.
Freshman
Mitch Perinar (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) hit .500 with eight kills and only one error. Freshman
Michael Simmons (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) added nine kills.
"Simmons stepped up tonight and did some nice things," Lewis head coach
Dan Friend said. "Perinar is really in a good groove right now."
It was a 13.5 to 3.0 blocks advantage for the Flyers that powered their .386 to .173 hitting percentage edge.
"We had five aces to six missed serves and when you do that it allows your block to set up," Friend said. "We were way over our blocking average this weekend (against Quinicy and Lindenwood), which is great."
Junior
Trevor Weiskircher (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) had eight blocks for the Flyers.
Lindenwood falls to 2-7 (0-3 MIVA). Lewis improves to 8-4 (3-1 MIVA). The Flyers return to the court on Thursday (Feb. 11) in a home match against McKendree. Match time is 7 p.m. in Romeoville.
