Clermont, Fla. - After a rough start to its Florida trip, the Lewis University softball team rebounded with a pair of wins over both Gannon (9-1 (5 inn.)) and Kentucky Wesleyan (6-2) at The Spring Games on Tuesday (March 1). In the opener against Gannon, Lewis junior pitcher
Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) recorded her first career no-hitter for the Flyers (5-4).
  "It was nice to see us respond today after playing the way we did on (Monday)," Lewis head softball coach
Becky Pearl said. "From top to bottom, we played like a team and I could not be happier for Lainie."

Lainie Schweickert (Peru, Ill./St. Bede Academy) tossed her first career no-hitter as the Flyers made short work of Gannon to earn the 9-1 (5 inn.) win over the Golden Knights at Legends Way 4 Field on Tuesday morning.
Schweickert (2-1) allowed one unearned run, struck out five batters and walked five to earn the complete-game win. It's Lewis' first no-hitter since

The Peru, Ill., native was aided by an offense that recorded a season-high 14 hits against Gannon pitchers Kellyn Perich and Alison Benz. Eight different Flyers recorded at least one hit against the Golden Knight pitchers, with sophomore left fielder
Jenna Cairo (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and junior shortstop
Carly Jaworski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) each earning three base knocks. Cairo went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a RBI, while Jaworski was 3-for-4.

Carley Maupin (Peotone, Ill./Peotone) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while junior right fielder
Dani Knaak (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Lewis senior catcher
Brittany Russell (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) drove in three in the victory.
Perich (0-2) took the loss for the Golden Knights (2-3), allowing four runs and five hits in two innings pitched.
Game Two
Lewis 6, Kentucky Wesleyan 2

Cairo went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run, while Maupin went 2-for-3, including a bases-clearing double in a four-run third inning for the Flyers.

Jessica Lofthouse (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) also contributed two hits and scored a run for the Flyers in the win.
Lewis senior
Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis./Harborside) earned the win for the Flyers. Brems (2-1) allowed two runs and scattered eight hits, while fanning five batters. Her counterpart Casey Smith took the loss for the Panthers, surrendering four runs and six hits in three innings of work.
